A student-empowerment model
Creating a student-empowerment model relies on both finding new ways to engage students in their learning process and to transform the existing environment into learning spaces that help to increase student’s attention, focus and levels of interest that will maximise the potential for teaching and learning to deliver the most value to students. The third axis of change is to empower and engage students to become real actors in their learning. Too often, we aim for the autonomy of students without having support mechanisms in place that can support empowerment; or a contrario, we think about the modalities of accompanying per se, which helps to make students captive to accompanying devices. The NewDeal project breaks away from this binary logic and will adopt adopt an create a genuine accompaniment and empowerment model that focusing on three major directions:
Empowerment through the act of learning.
The empowerment of students must be positioned at the heart of the act of learning. The new curricula must promote an active, interactive and participatory pedagogy that is based on a project approach and learning by authentic situations. Students will be required to actively participate in their learning insofar as the new programs will favor modalities such as the inverted classes, the realisation of study projects, or even the hybridisation of the courses in order to optimise the collaboration between all actors. Empowerment within programs
Each program will be managed by a program director, a teacher-researcher whose part of the service is dedicated to this mission, and which ensures the coherence of its organisation and its evolution. It is the interlocutor of students, teachers who intervene and socio-economic and cultural partners. Students who wish to do so, will build a personalised project for success with the program director; the plan will integrate the BCS organisation of the training offer, the potential variety of rhythms or any other form of adaptation to the needs and objectives identified . Personalised meetings and progress reports will allow students to take stock of their progress in the study program.
Empowerment facilitated by the learning environment
The autonomy of the student presupposes that he can benefit from multiple and adapted resources in regards his learning, to having access to useful information useful in the study programs, to the BCS proposed for Program, the procedures for validation and certification, etc. Having a dematerialised work environment that is integrated into the study paths is critical to the implementation of the new curricula.
