Objective: increasing the expertise of the new generation of researchers through the international opening-up of doctoral studies.
Being one of the most emblematic university degrees, the Doctorate closely combines academic education and high-level research. The International Doctorate program of the University of Bordeaux' Initiative of Excellence has supported already more than 135 internationalization projects (joint international supervision, double diploma programs, outgoing mobility) of promising doctoral students doing their theses in an international context. Doctoral students on the "International Doctorate" program thus play an active role in the consolidation of strategic partnerships for the University of Bordeaux (institutional agreements, partner international laboratories, thematic networks, collaborations with renowned universities, etc.).
On its new programming period 2017-2020, University of Bordeaux' Initiative of Excellence wish to pursue its action towards the internationalization of doctoral studies, both in terms of integrating international aspects in the doctoral training or of implementing attractive schemes for international talented young researchers and strengthening a targeted international strategy.

On a purely scientific level, this exchange has increased the scope of my technical skills and enabled me to investigate an in vivo aspect of my project. […] Moreover, this joint supervision gave me the opportunity to create links with the University of Bordeaux and the MIT. […] On a more personal level, having been able to benefit from the exceptional environment of the MIT campus is clearly an asset for my young scientist’s career.
