Open curriculum

A major change in the NewDeal project is the re-engineering of how the programs are constructed by introducing a program that is create modules. Modules are structured to progressively build onto acquired competencies in order to deliver maximum value to students in regards to knowledge and expertise on selected subjects matters. This opening of the curriculum focuses on three principal axes:
- the modularisation of study programs
- the construction of individual paths
- the adaptation of rhythms.


Programs connected to their environment

In a reticular and complex world, the bridges between the central nodes of universities, organizations and enterprises are crucial for opening and decompartmentalizing training. The activation of networks of trades, expertise, knowledge, allows the flow of skills and knowledge and a link between the local and the global. On the one hand, to ensure the relevance of the objectives of the training in terms of the skills targeted, and on the other hand, to give students the means to understand the stakes of a world constantly in motion, new curricula Must be strongly connected with their immediate environment, the world of research within the universities and the socio-economic, industrial and associative world on the regional, national or international territory and integrate a consideration of the stakes societal.

The third axis of change is to empower and engage students to become real actors in their learning.

Too often, we aim for the autonomy of students without having support mechanisms in place that can support empowerment; or a contrario, we think about the modalities of accompanying per se, which helps to make students captive to accompanying devices. The NewDeal project breaks away from this binary logic and will adopt adopt an create a genuine accompaniment and empowerment model that focusing on three major directions:



  • Empowerment through the act of learning. 
  • Empowerment within programs.

  • Empowerment facilitated by the learning environment.
